Gus Callaghan

Send an enquiry.
Tell us what you need and we will come back to you. If it is a supply enquiry, include the volumes, weights and timing you are working to. If it is a visit, give us a few dates that suit.

Careers
The work is computerised and the animals are worth doing properly.
Pig production is the third biggest sector in Irish agriculture and it cannot find enough people. Almost every part of the job now runs through systems, and the stockmanship is what makes the difference.
Pig Farm Assistant
Maintaining the health and welfare of pigs through daily husbandry across the whole unit, from breeding through to finisher. Feeding, inspection, records, moving and handling stock, and keeping buildings and equipment in order.
You do not need to have worked with pigs before. You do need to be reliable, physically comfortable around livestock, and willing to learn a system. Training is on the job and it is paid.
- Full time Permanent role with a set rota, not seasonal agency work.
- Paid training Husbandry, biosecurity and stock handling taught on site.
- Local Ten minutes from Ennis on the Tulla Road side of the parish.
Questions we get asked most.
Can we arrange a visit to the unit?
Yes, and we encourage it. Buyers, vets, students and anyone weighing up a career in the sector are all welcome, arranged in advance. Visitors sign in, change or cover their clothing, and use the boots and overalls provided.
Please do not arrive at a pig house unannounced. Uncontrolled entry is exactly how disease gets into a closed herd, and it is the one rule we will hold to.
Do you supply weaners or finished pigs directly?
Kilfilum is an integrated breeding, rearing and finishing unit, and we deal directly with factories here and in the North as well as with buyers. Supply is agreed per buyer rather than off a price list, so send the volumes, weights and timing you are working to and the office will come back with what is available.
What biosecurity rules apply to visitors?
Everyone signs the visitor log on arrival. Clothing is changed or covered and the unit's own boots and overalls are worn. Contact with pens and stock is limited to what the visit actually requires.
If you have been on another pig farm in the previous 48 hours, reschedule. That single rule does more to protect the herd than anything else on this page.
Are you currently hiring?
Pig Farm Assistant roles come up across the unit at Spancill Hill and Tulla Road. The work runs from breeding through to finisher, and it is permanent rather than seasonal. No previous experience with pigs is needed.
Send your name, a phone number and a line about yourself to the email address above, or use the enquiry form and choose Careers.
Finding the unit.
Spancill Hill is a few minutes east of Ennis on the Tulla Road side of the parish. Turn off the main road and follow the concrete yard, and you are there.
The map loads from Google only when you ask for it, so nothing is fetched and no cookies are set before that.
Not sure which door to knock on?
One form reaches the office, and the office knows who needs to see it. Supply, feed, visits and careers all start in the same place.
